Bah

pretty good entry in the child hero brings down a dystopia genre (making wild assumptions about the end of the series). Forced into action and harboring a terrible secret -- a true secret that would in fact be horrible to reveal, and justifies her lengthy silence -- the heroine has to learn to experience life from a different perspective. She grows up, like so many of us, in a way she does not expect.

Ug. I read this very popular YA book for my teen book discussion group next week. I’ll be interested in seeing what they think. This is the second series I have read from this author.

This series has started out nicely. I liked the main character - she has hidden untapped strength, but things she is just "normal". The author does a good job of showing how she is growing and coming into herself.

At least in this first book, we are given mostly an overview of the world and its workings without going into great detail about it. It is mostly from the viewpoint of the teenager so it appears to be mostly superficial, but there

Another fantastic work of young adult fiction. I'm loving this series. Thought-provoking, light enough to take the edge off any sci-fi hesitation I had. Tally Youngblood is inspiring. ...more
