I was really disappointed with this book. I'm not sure why I was expecting more. It was garish and grotesque, jumbled together, small characters in Shakespeare fleshed out to be agonizing caricatures. The worst one was Autolycus. He felt mangled. I think I'll still read the other ones in the Hogarth Shakespeare series, though I hope the other authors attempt to create something either entirely separate from Shakespeare or more faithful.

I'm for sure a sucker for retellings and reimaginings of classics, but there were a couple of missteps here that stood out, particularly with regard to very broadly drawn secondary characters. The cliches or quick typecasting sometimes required by the stage isn't necessary on the page.
