This book is very touching. It was my first read from Kent Haruf and it's a pity because he just passed away after he finished this book. The way he wrote holds on you.

It is all the things people are saying it is - heartfelt, genuinely emotional, gentle, lovingly wrought from a talented writer facing his own mortality. I've never read any Kent Haruf, but I can certainly see what there is to admire from him. The whole thing feels spare and very, very American - not in the bombastic Murica way, but in the tradition of plain, naturalistic, contemplative settings and language.
