I struggled along through this one. Even though the story was fascinating I never felt compelled to pick it up even when I was home sick for a week.
As a native of Texas I had a hard time with the character of Yarborough (sp?). While the cadence of his language was spot on the vocabulary was not. Texans don't speak like cartoon characters. Sorry.
And that me question the other characters. They never felt real.

Impossible to know where to start with this one -- scientists, Jesuits, aliens... an incredibly engrossing, genre-bending story that really challenges your ideas about god and life and wow. Really amazing.
Wow, I loved this book. Really made me think...it's a Big Idea book. Also a harrowing and tragic page-turner.
