Very derivative of 1984 and Brave New World, only aimed at kids. Quasi-medieval concepts of conformity and trying to be an ideal citizen. Highly controlled society that seems utopian but isn't. Some ideas that seem good in theory but end up not good in practice. Easy read, only took a couple hours. Interesting in general but I felt the concept of the Giver was very underdeveloped. I wanted more history of the community, how they came to be the wqy they were.
