Charming is a good word for this book. Also, wry. I laughed out loud during the Purse essay - I'm so with Ephron on that. I also loved her essays on how food and cooking has changed over the years, and the essay on the rapture of books should be read by any book lover. The essay on her apartment building dragged on and on - I couldn't connect with that one. I could listen to Nora Ephron talk about womanhood and aging and love and journalism and books and food forever.

4.5 stars. Her descriptions of the rapture of reading are perfection and I loved her devotion to New York.

Alas, I do not think this book was meant for me.
I kept on seeing it being recommended by various women of note, in various places, and thought I'd take a look for myself.
Maybe if I'd read some earlier pieces, eased my way into Ms. Ephron's written work...
But I didn't.
And reading about (amongst other things) a love affair with a stupendously expensive apartment - $1,500 in the 1980s in NYC *was* expensive - left me flabbergasted. I just didn't get it.
So, no I wouldn't recommend this.
