Meh. I was looking for a silly, fun book to read over the holidays. It was certainly silly, but lacked the acerbic wit of his second book in this series, China Rich Girlfriend. It’s all a fairly ridiculous premise: soap opera drama amongst the old money Singapore families and their jet setting children, with an American middle class kid thrown into the mix. This book is exactly perfect for what it is: an addictive, campy, can’t-put-it-down read. I kept hearing about this book, but I finally decided to give it a try when someone told me she stayed awake on a transatlantic flight reading the whole thing, cover to cover.

This was a fun, frothy read -- great for vacation, which is when I read it, though I was a little jealous of the huge, spacious houses and bathrooms while I was fighting to turn around in my tiny little shower on the cruise ship. It was a little confusing to keep track of all of the families and characters and I thought some of the storylines were pretty choppy, but it was overall enjoyable. I bet the movie will be lots of fun and super decadent.
