Meh. It was not good enough for me to overlook the fact that every character and plot element were things I have read before and in better books. Also, normally I don't take too much issue with "that's not believable." I mean it's young adult fantasy, for crying out loud. But this one had too much that I just couldn't accept. Also, if you're going to totally copy another book's ideas, have the decency to at least change the word. Don't call it an arena for pete's sake--we all know arena death ma ...more

Sort of a riff on Divergent, Harry Potter, and Hunger Games. Engaging, but probably part of my rounding up from 3.5 to 4 is that it feels (to me) so connected to what's happening in Palestine - the way violent resistance is used as an excuse to escalate violent oppression. ...more
