I have a few friends who don't like Anne Lamott. I am not among them. Here's why: she is brutally honest, unpretentious and doesn't pretend that she has it all together. In my opinion, this is exactly the kind of writer Christian publishers need to actively pursue. Far too many books in this genre are written from a perspective of superiority. I hate to give a generally well-written book a poor review, but Help, Thanks, Wow simply wasn't for me. I admire Lamott's openness about her own brokenness, although it does make any criticism I level feel like picking on her. I just can't relate to her. Not that we aren't all broken and struggling in some way. But she writes with such specific examples, so many references to literary works, works of art, and old movies, as well as cultural and personal experiences that I don't know, am not inte

This book was mentioned by Hilary Clinton in an interview about her faith. I’m a fan of Anne Lamott so I added this one to my list. It’s got some nice anecdotes, but I wish there was a little more to it.

I've wanted to read this one for a while now, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Especially the help part - maybe because that's the one I need the most work on. I do pretty good with Thanks and Wow. Interesting observations on prayer.
