I loved it. I obviously knew the story before, had seen the movie, and always struggle with the "Should I read this because it's a classic or should I not waste my time because I already know the story and you know, 'So many books, so little time'?" It was definitely not a waste of my time to read. It's one of those very, very well-written stories that you read not just for the genius of the story but also for the genius of the writing itself. A classic that I somehow never read, until now.
This book is at the top of so many lists, beloved by so many, said to be the One Book you should read before you die, acclaimed as an American Literary Masterpiece, and on and on .... And boy was I disappointed. Honestly, I'm afraid to even say that. I just, I'm out of step with every other reader in the country, I guess.
It wasn't bad, exactly. It just wasn't amazing.

I read this classic probably 20 years ago... I know I couldn't possibly have appreciated the incredible beauty, heart, heartbreak and soul that is wrapped up in it. There is so much wisdom and reflection on the human heart and being... if you haven't read it, do!
