This is one of those classic novels I somehow missed all through my school years. As did millions before me, I enjoyed this book quite a lot. Scout is one of the best literary protagonists ever conceived. Her precocious drive to comprehend her small town existence while struggling with the often baffling and frustrating demands of adults was wonderfully portrayed by the author. This is an amazing story, and I of course appreciated it so much more at this age than I did at 14. One thing that really struck home this time around was that this was written in 1960...before the Civil Rights Act. I didn't understand the significance of that when I was in high school, but I am very much impressed with Harper Lee's contribution to society now. The quote of the novel:
