Bingo - a banned book. I think I last read this in 2001 or 2002 (for our bookclub's annual "classic" re-read), but it didn't leave a lasting impression on me then and I cannot imagine why. The setting is close to where my dad grew up. We still have family there but I haven't visited since the 1990's... on this reading I can see Maycomb as it must've been 80 years ago and it makes me sad, but hopeful. And then sad again because much of what existed in 1935 still exists... beyond the deep South. T

I previously gave this book four stars. I recently saw the Aaron Sorkin play and decided to re-read it. The book is so much better than I remembered. The writing is so vibrant. Lee is amazing at describing the setting and the characters. If you were assigned to read it and school and didn’t like it, I suggest a re-read.
