This book is a bit too too. Your opinion of the book will depend on how you feel about sentences like:
I wonder how many people have had life-changing experiences while on the loo?

peppered throughout. Unfortunately, I have a low tolerance for this sort of humor, so this got old fast.

Plus, the writing is a little sloppy, Bowen is overly fond of a few phrases and uses them multiple times: bathroom with tartan wallpaper, Georgie is a mere slip of a girl, and so on ...

I was intrigued by the premise for this series set on the brink of WWII in which a minor royal in reduced circumstances decides to take control of her own life by starting her own cleaning company (where she, accustomed to being served rather than serving and therefore completely inexperienced, is the only employee), and also agrees to spy on Wallis Simpson for the Queen. What a FUN book. Really slow for the first 100 pages or so, but SO worth sticking it through. After that it became a great page turner. Would have been a 4 star had the beginning pick up sooner.
I will however, def be checking out the rest of the series.

It was very slow to start, but when I jumped ahead a bit, I was caught up and very interested in the characters and plot. I'll definitely look up the next book when it comes out. ...more

This was a silly little murder mystery set in London and rural Scotland in the 1930s. The audible narrator was really good which I think made it more enjoyable.
