It totally holds up. I was a little nervous that coming back a couple of decades later would dull the magic of the book, but it's just as good as ever. Montgomery's writing is INCREDIBLE. The two things that are the most amazing to me are 1) her descriptions of Prince Edward Island and 2) the amazing way that Anne gradually matures over the course of the book. I reread it this Christmas while sipping big cups of hot cocoa. i forgot how lovely the writing really is...and how Anne jumps off the page. What amazingly strong, palpable, colourful characters - LM Montgomery really was a master.
Every time I move, the first book I read in the new place is Anne. This time, on the Kindle. Since, you know, all my copies of the book were being bug fogged when I moved.
Magical to re-read this on Prince Edward Island.
As good as I remember from when I was younger. One of the best series around!
