I'm not going to lie - I just started crying on Bart for no real reason last night while reading the last few chapters of this - and it wasn't just because of the really sad things that happen towards the end of an otherwise jolly romp about adolescence and coming of age in a provincial Canadian town. This is my all-time favorite book. I love Anne's sassy, romantic and poetic disposition and her determination to call her fire-red hair "auburn." She gets herself into scrapes, time and time again, much to my delight, yet they are a reflection of true living child!
When I was in middle school, I even gave my best friend and I the code names of "Anne" (me, of course!) and "Diana." Of course, it was "Anne with an E." This is how we addressed our notes in class to one another! ...more
