Reading this epic fantasy makes me feel like a kid again, not because I read fantasy as a kid (I didn't), but because these books have taken over my life (as books did when I was a kid, when all I wanted was to be back reading if I was doing anything else). Soon, though, I'll be finished with what's been published, and I'll join GRRM's legion of fans spending all their birthday, penny, and other types of wishes on the hope that it won't take another six years for book six.

I place SoS in my list of the top 10 works of fiction that I've ever read. The world building and character development is exquisite. With the exception of a couple of dry sections, most of the 1100 pages had me hanging on every word. I really wish the TV show would have stayed closer to the text for seasons 3 and 4 as they missed out on some real gems. And I absolutely loved hearing Meera's telling of the "Knight of the laughing tree". Can't wait to finish the series.

I thought this first half of this book was not as good as the first two, with several chapters focusing on "will they or won't they" situations between various couples (I use that term very loosely in some cases). The strong back half made up for this, however. I appreciated how several characters' story lines converged, so that the action was not so broken up. Some of my early predictions have come to pass, or seem to have been set up to come to pass in future volumes. There were also two death

This was my favorite in the series so far. Lots of action, so much death (view spoiler) and some touching scenes as well -- particularly the first part of Sansa's last chapter, and she isn't even one of my favorite characters, though I sympathized more with her in this book. I loved Jon's story arc as well. Definitely looking forward to the next one.

I just can't put this series down. It compels me forward from character chapter to character chapter--he's a fiendish author that way. I don't find him Tolkien-esque as he's been lauded except in the vastness in the setting/world he's created. There are no characters to rival Gandalf, the Hobbits, Aragorn, Elrond and the elves and there is constant brutality and frequent vulgarity. Tolkien was never vulgar.

Definitely my favorite of the series so far. I've learned not to get too attached to any of the characters, cause they may not be around for too long!

The more I read the more I can't stop. There are so many characters and you want to know how each one's story changes that you can't put it down.
