This is a solid atmospheric horror story, with some creepy great scenes, but I would have enjoyed the artwork more without the watercolor blotches that covered up all of the excellent details of the characters and settings. What was the point? Is it supposed to look "edgy"? I saw at the back of the book examples of the artwork before the several layers of splotching were added and it looked so, so much better. It was more straight-forward, but still fit the story's tone.

I thought this would be a fun and spooky Halloween read, but it was just really stupid. The story was confusing, the wytches and “pledging” was never adequately explained (and the pivotal moment when they moan “she put Pledge in the water!” all I could think of was spraying people with lemon fresh Pledge furniture polish) so none of it made sense. The protagonist, the father - a children’s book author / illustrator - was so obviously some sort of weird wish fulfillment on the part of Snyder that

This was interesting and engaging and even a bit frightening in spots, but it was also confusing and felt a little callous and disingenuous in its depictions of two characters' respective disabilities. I wanted to like it more than I did, especially because I like so much of what I read from Image Comics, but this just felt like a more superficial thought exercise than a well-executed story.
