This was one of those audiobooks that I loved so much that it motivated me to do things like exercise and clean my house so I had an excuse to listen more. I suspected that I would like this book ever since it won an Alex Award and I'm not sure what made me wait so long to pick it up. Wil Wheaton does an excellent job narrating, although he does read slowly. I listen to him at 1.5 speed and it sounds normal to me. Highly recommended to geeks of all flavors. ...more

Entertaining, fun and a fast read. If you are an 80's kid or you like video games and pop culture then this book is tons of fun. Just like The Martian, this book reads like it is script ready and Steven Spielberg is filming it for a 2018 release. My 13 year old and my husband also really enjoyed this book. You will follow the main character through many Virtual reality challenges in hopes of securing the coveted crystal egg if you give this book a read. Perfect summer entertainment! ...more

Certainly not my typical read but very engrossing. A boy in the dismal future living at 700 Portland in Oklahoma City begins a quest to play the ultimate game. The whole world is immersed in the alternative reality of OASIS, a computer driven scheme where one can travel multiple worlds

80s videogame and 80s culture overload. This book is an homage to this totally awesome era, but for me it is too much. I probably got about 80% of the references (see what I did there?) and most of them made me a bit nostalgic. As a kid (albeit, a young kid) of the 80s, and a lightweight gamer I appreciated the book. I doubt you'd get anything out of it if you were neither. Niche book. ...more
