I honestly don't know how to review this book, other than to say that it is amazing and everyone needs to read or listen to it. Since the author reads the book himself, I felt like it gave it an extra level of meaning to listen to it. You can hear even more clearly the combination of poetry and logic and philosophy at work in Coates hard-won view of the world. Bingo - Memoir. another book I planned for 2015 summer bingo but didn't read until November. It was probably good that a few months had passed after Go Set a Watchman. I hesitate to include that title anywhere close to this one, but it was that book that put this one on my TBR. So many people have written poignant reviews about this book.

I wanted so badly to rate this 4 stars when I started. I thought it was slightly repetitive, maybe too militant for my tastes. By the end, the tiny things that irked me about Coates' writing were either resolved, or had come to resonate with me. This book is pure poetry. I recommend reading it with the same heart and mind with which you might approach poetry. It brought me to tears many times.
