Book Bingo - set in a country I've never visited (India)
This was a heavy read (themes of rape & domestic violence, generational poverty, and racism to name a few), seemingly without hope or redemption for the two lead characters, but I really fell in love with them. And oh my goodness, the writing is beautiful.
