Went into this expecting an alternate history, but instead found a hard-boiled detective novel set within an alternate history. And then things get really wacky.

It had a really promising start...murder mystery set in an alternate history. However, as I got around halfway, I got lost in some of the plot twists, started to lose interest, and I just wanted to know how it ended. If he had kept up what he started in the first part of the book, I think it could have been worth 5 stars.

In the book's defense though, I had a very busy schedule and spread out my reading over a month. This could be the very reason why I lost interest and not the writing. ...more

Excellent pick for my book club. We had a lot to talk about, ranging from totally typical--who in the group is religious, what it means to be Jewish--to what I like to think of as completely atypical--what kind of donuts the Filipino donut maker serves, for instance. Good stuff.

Had I not been trapped on a Greyhound bus I wouldn't have read past the third chapter. It took a while to get into the story, and then I thought it was okay.
