Gail Carriger's steampunky alternate history, featuring a very well-matched couple (a supremely capable & tart-tongued spinster, and the powerful werewolf who loves capable, bossy bitches), vampires, werewolves, bigoted scientists & one creepy golem, is a pure delight. I recommend starting with her YA Finishing School series first, as it is set 20 years before this one & there are some fun Easter eggs here. I read this one on audiobook & have nothing but praise for the narrator, Emily Gray.

This was fabulous - a hilarious romp through Victorian London, featuring vampires and werewolves who have been fully integrated into society. I laughed out loud more than I can tell you. Our heroine, Miss Alexia Tarabotti, is a very proper young lady, on the shelf for quite some time. As such she is a bluestocking and does as she sees fit. This includes sneaking away at balls, sneaking out of the house in the middle of the night and just generally acting scandalously modern for her mother's tast

Yes, this is vampire/werewolf fiction, but it is a notch above the regular romance novels that have been popping up everywhere. I really enjoyed the main character, Alexia Tarbotti...she is snarky and intelligent in a world of polite frivolity. The love story is somewhat predictable, but I enjoyed the comedy instead of the "love" talk, and the interesting twist with the preternatural state of Miss Tarbotti. There were actually parts where the dialog made me laugh out loud! I can't understand how

I decided to listen to this series as a kind of comfort read. This was my first time listening to the audiobook, and I am happy to report listening is just as fun as reading. This series will always be the gold standard of steampunk for me.

A friend read Soulless months (years?) ago and I've been interested in it ever since I read her review. So when I was browsing the library's online offerings to stock my nook before our car ride, I checked this one out. It did not disappoint. In fact, it was the perfect companion for a very long car ride and the perfect start to a vacation - it was light, engaging and fun.

I really loved the idea behind this book--yes, it was a vampire and werewolf book, but it was different. I also really enjoyed the Victorian/slightly steampunk component of it as well. The only thing that annoyed me was the author's convention of calling the heroine by her first name and then also by "Miss Tarabotti" all in the same breath.
