This book was great! Made me laugh out loud. Alexia Tarabotti is a worthy heroine and holds her own against vampires, werewolves, and other assorted supernatural beings with her razor wit and silver-tipped parasol! And her love-hate-love relationship with the Alpha Werewolf, Lord Maccon, is the best part of this book. Fans of Patricia Briggs, Charlaine Harris, and Steampunk novels will most definitely enjoy! I know I did...can't wait to begin the second in the series.

This genre-bender is a lot of fun! An interesting Victorian world where vampires, werewolves, and ghosts are accepted as members of polite society, laugh-out-loud witty prose, and a steamy romance combine to make this an un-put-down-able start to a series. I quite liked it.
(It would be a good crossover choice for YA, but some of the love scenes are *quite* steamy, so be warned!)
The witty tone and feisty female protagonist reminded me of Amelia Peabody.

A very campy mix of light steampunk and slighty smutty romance--P.G. Wodehouse meets Jane Austen in Bridget Jones form. The setting and characters are what make this one fun--a Victorian England filled with vampires and werewolves along with normal humans. This one isn't for everyone, but it sure tickled my fancy.

Alexia's dull evening at a ball is livened up when she kills a vampire with her parasol. The death is investigated by an attractive werewolf who's also a lord so romance ensues. It's a cute, light read that's the beginning of a series.

I got as far as page 23 before getting too annoyed to continue. Alexia, the "exotic" protagonist with the hot body, is a soulless person (which demands a better explanation than "can negate supernatural powers". What the heck happens when such people die?) who will probably end up with the gruff but sexy Lord Maccon... who happens to be a werewolf. For comic effect, she has a weakness for treacle tart and will probably be thwarted throughout the book from enjoying a slice.

I really had a great time reading this book. It was a wonderful and absurd comedy-of-manners with the paranormal and a little steampunk tossed in for good measure. The main character, Alexis, was a nice combination of arrogence, intelligence, inner strength with a just enough insecurity to make her seem realistic. The dialogue is a little over-wrought (sometimes) but nothing that seemed innapproprate for the slightly satirical tone of the whole book.
