Absolutely gorgeous audiobook recording of Stardust read by Neil Gaiman - if that guy ever runs out of ideas for new books, etc. he could just have a career as a book reader.

Also, while I liked the addition of Captain Shakespeare in the movie, I would have preferred to trade the screen time for the entire set-up of the book with the every-nine-years market, etc. And the inclusion of the "little hairy man", too.

Sayang ...more

An enjoyable short tale of the "real" world and the "fairie" world. I loved the interaction between Tristan and the fallen star. By 25% through the book I guessed the shape of the story to come, but that in no way made it less enjoyable.

Perhaps a bit too violent for the littlest kids, but not all that more violent than the Brothers Grimm.

Read for fantasy genre study.

I liked this book, but didn’t love it. There were parts and characters that were funny, scary and interesting but at times it almost seemed like Gaiman was over doing it. Why do there have to be the dead brothers of Stronghold? And the witches? Really? I guess you just don’t go out to Faerie and not encounter danger, but at the same time it seemed a little like following every fairy tale plot device all in one book. It is possible that my viewing of the movie right before reading this book color ...more

3.5 stars, rounded up because I love Neil Gaiman so much. I really liked it, right up until the ending when it was pretty clear that the changes they made for the movie were incredibly necessary and much more successful. The book just sort of petered out. There was a great narrative, but not really any arc to it.

Neil Gaiman narrates the audiobook and it was absolutely delightful. He really is a master storyteller and I'm sad it's over. ...more
