I really enjoyed this up until the last...maybe 15 pages? I feel like I need to reread the last chapter because the Kindle percentage was misleading, which made the ending feel quite abrupt.

A rich, powerful book. The writing was amazing. This is my first Erdrich, but it won't be my last.

#booklyreadathon My rating had a lot to do with the fact that it took me awhile to get through it and that I felt that the chapters were a bit too long; wished that they had been chopped up into smaller chunks, as I lost a lot of the storyline in those long chapters. The writing was beautiful and it was an excellent story; just was unable to follow it well

Although this novel is violent and disturbing, it is ultimately about pride, honor, friendship, and love. Erdrich’s writing is honest and heartfelt and she showcases the “Maze of Injustice” that exists as a result of the tangled federal, state, and tribal laws, which disproportionately harm Native women. This story is powerful and important.
