What an enjoyable book. This is Austen's satire of gothic romance and she nails it.

I have now completed Austen's big six and can see why each book is claimed as a favorite. P&P is definitely her best work but her literary output shows tremendous talent throughout. ...more

I think I love this book more each time I read it. Jane Austen creates a well written story about Catherine, the unlikely heroine while mocking the popular gothic novel and Anne Radcliffe (and other fellow authors) as the story within the story.

I love the tongue in cheek humor and the voice of the narrator. This is a must read for Austen fans, regardless of familiarity with the gothic novel.
