This weighty ( both in page numbers and in emotional weight) novel about India in the 1970s has been accurately compared to the work of Charles Dickens, only it doesn't have the happy ending (because then I think book would be called Slumdog millionaire).
It's a beautifully crafted story of the very different lives of four strangers and how they come together and end up sharing a flat. It is very moving while giving the reader a better understanding of modern day India and its complex problems. ...more
