Not as brilliant as Shining Girls, but Broken Monsters is still an engaging read. I love how Lauren Beukes always tried to blend many genres into her books. The mystery here is not that compelling, but I like the main characters enough (especially mother-daughter Gabi and Layla) to enjoy the book decently. The ending left you with questions - I'm ok with it though. Only in some parts there are holes here and there, but the pace is still fast for a mystery/thriller/crime book.

This book is brutal and intense. Brutally intense. Intensely brutal. This is so fucked up. This is also a mind-blowing work of art.
