The premise was interesting and I was engaged enough to see how it all ended. The writing is pretty horrendous however. I won't be reaching for any of his other books anytime soon. ...more

This was a book I had wanted to read for a long time. It was worth the wait. The only thing I didn't like was the abrupt ending. It was well written, and kept my interest - almost couldn't put it down. It makes you ask the same question as a parent: how far would you go for a child? ...more

WOW. Good book. Things you hope you never, ever have to think about as a parent. Did not see the end coming together as it did. Well played, Landay.

whoa! fast-paced and what a story! (I set my knitting aside last night to finish the last third of the book...that says a LOT!) Duh me, I was surprised about the purpose of the grand jury. Looking forward to bookclub discussion lat ...more

This might be the first book I've ever read where the author tells you how to pronounce acronyms and people's names as the story develops. I thought that was both helpful and distracting. Anyway, it was a good summer read, nothing substantive, but entertaining and quick. And I only guessed one of the twists/major plot points toward the end, so it was nice that it wasn't completely predictable. ...more

I feel weird rating this book as "really liked it" because the story really got to me and the entire time I read it I was just filled with this feeling of dread. The story was so realistic and horrifying that I could actually feel what the protagonist was going through. That being said it was an extremely compelling read and once I started it I did not want to put it down. ...more
