Notes: This book walloped me on the head--not anything I'd have expected or imagined. It's a mix of diary, quantum physics, mystery, time travel (in the lease time traveling sense). The depiction of a young girl suffering at the hands of bullies in Japan, a lost father, a desolate life are truly heartbreaking, but the recovery is magical.
I'm not sure how I felt exactly about the reader (Ruth, who finds the diary)... she frustrates me too much.

Diaries. Japan. Quantum mechanics. Zen Buddhism. Up is down, down is up, and this book was both.
Started out pleasantly surprised at how weird and fun this was, but I couldn't stick with it when the story took a left turn. I think that those referring to this as Murakami-light are pretty right on.
