Well I got into this book and enjoyed reading it. I was engrossed in the story and really liked Jane's fire, particularly when she stood up to her horrible aunt.
What I didn't like was that Lowood seemed to have tempered that fire, to the point where I didn't always like her relationship with Mr. Rochester and I was particularly annoyed when she would call him master and sit at his feet like a little dog. Had a lengthy discussion about Bronte versus Austen last night actually. In general I guess I'm "team Bronte" because I can rarely even finish an Austen book (although I do like Emma) but that being said, I'm just not that much of a fan of 19th century literature. This was a re-read for a book club I'm trying out tomorrow (pairing the reading with the new movie) and I think I was a little more moved by it as a teenager. Got so bored 1/3 of the way through, was forcing myself to continue.
I really liked this book, though it was a bit slow at the beginning.... probably one of my favorite classic romances, (after pride and prejudice, of course). I couldn't put the book down at the end, just waiting for Jane to reunite with Mr. Rochester... sigh...

My son has to read it for his AP lit course. I felt it was probably about time to read it.
One of my favorite books of all time. Gets better every time I read it!
Read it. Bronte rambles sometimes but the story is powerful.
