At times I loved this book and at times . . . not so much. The parts I loved were so brilliant it made me resent the parts I didn't enjoy even more. My lack of enjoyment is probably very much due to my basic ignorance of British history, my general tendency to dislike (or at least not love) modern British writers and Booker winners, and perhaps my general distraction over the past few weeks when I have been reading the book. So many people loved this book that I feel like a fraud for not loving it. Especially because I usually love historical fiction. By the end, I enjoyed the perspective. It was nice to see villains portrayed as heroes and vice versa, but I found it a little tricky to get into and stick with. Obviously many people loved it, but it just wasn't my cup of tea!
