Wow. I really should know better. For some reason, I assumed that because this book is juvenile fiction, it wouldn't be powerful. I could not have been more wrong. I don't know how I made it to 48 years of age before reading this book, but I am glad I finally read it.

I read this book probably 25 years ago, and didn't remember a thing. It's aged remarkably well, and has a lot of really, really good moments. There's a lot of slow buildup to the incredibly quick finale, so the pacing didn't really grab me, but I totally understand the reasoning behind it.
