Reread this in English version and it was so much better than the translated one.
The stream of consciousness feels more real here, as well as the character details. I can easily imagine their movement, their surrounding, the New York City (even though not all stories have NYC as the setting). I really recommend you to read the English version if possible.

I believe I've had this book on my shelves since the late 1970s. How is it that I never read it? "For Esme -- With Love and Squalor" is the best story and that's really saying somethings since all of the stories are perfect.
