A few Goodreads reviews mention that this series of essays by Patchett comes across as arrogant and defensive, especially when she is talking about her writing. I hate telling people that their reactions to books is wrong, but WRONGWRONGWRONG. Ann Patchett has earned her writing chops and can give advice about writing in any tone she wishes (which really was not defensive AT ALL). I don't think I could love Ann Patchett more. I loved how each of these essays was so different , but they worked so beautifully together as a collection.
