this book is great. as you may know (from my rare postings on here), I'm not really a reader unless it grabs me in some way. the manner in which eugeidies writes about the family history of Greecian traditions and paths, you end up seeing Cal's (the main character's) identity form from his history both of tradition and dna.

This is not what I thought it would be. I had braced myself for something self-consciously shocking and revolutionary, and instead discovered a quietly intimate story of several generations of the Stephanidies family, narrated by the youngest member... who happens to be a hermaphrodite. Best book I've read all year. I can't explain it in any way that will make it sound like something you want to read, but the characters are so amazing - the development of the main character, especially. I picked up this book because of all the people I saw reading it on the Subway who looked like they were really enjoying it. And I'm so glad I did. Definitely recommended. ...more
