I have appreciated graphic novels in the past, so it's not that. I'm not a fan of science fiction or fantasy. Action hero stories don't grab me. I appreciate all of the work that went into the story and the graphic design. I guess I just had a hard time caring about this story. It was well done, but not in my normal reading world. Personally I wouldn't read any more of this type of book, but I could recommend it to others...to each book its own reader.

I have been wanting to read it since the movie came out. I am not a big graphic novel reader, but I enjoyed the storytelling, the alternate timeline, and the message. The fear of war accurately captures the fear people had of a nuclear holocaust and the environmental concern matches our concerns even today.
I liked how they would take a storyline and interweave the events so that one narration, narrates the other. Reading it in the future makes me a bit doubtful of the resolution of the story, b ...more

Um, there are no page numbers for the book in general. Just within the individual chapters.
I really like the panels where Moore pulls back on a scene starting from the close-up. Very cool.
Chapter IV (Watchmaker) is amazing. I'm contemplating my existence after that.
Could have used fewer scenes by the newsstand with the pirate comic book. I understand where Moore was going but it was distracting. ...more

What a great read. I'm really glad I finally got around to reading this one, after hearing about it, and reading Neil Gaiman's blog for so long, and all the good recommendations from here and there. Hey, what do you know, "they" were right.
A story all about costumed superheroes, how they affect society, change the world, and are just normal people with a range of attitudes and quirks.

Hey, this was pretty good! I don't know if it changed my life or anything, but I liked a lot -- more than I thought I would. I ended up liking every character. At the beginning I didn't like Rorschach or the Comedian but by the end I did.

Wow. I did not enjoy this at all. It was nearly a one-star for me. I guess I just wasn't the target audience, since I know it's wildly popular. I know it wasn't the format, as I've read and enjoyed other graphic novels, and I typically enjoy dark and dreary, so it wasn't that either. Perhaps much of the love came from the fact that it was the first to really usher in the "new" comic book as graphic novel form? Anyway, not for me.

Is it blasphemous to say I didn't like this as much as I thought I would?
