Maybe it was better that I didn't know about the book. I just didn't enjoy reading this, I didn't like the style, and I've seen both movies so it's not like I was going to be surprised by the story, so why continue reading... ...more

Bleak. Bleaky bleak bleak bleak, with a side of despair and just a dash of nihilism. Well written, but an ugly slog with characters veering from the venal to the pathetic.
