I almost didn't get into this book...it was such a slow start and filled (at first) with details about the financial industry that bored me to tears, even though I sensed it was a setup for the rest of the book. I abhor info dumps in books so I was mildly annoyed by this. However, I stuck through it and when the book brought all the pieces together and it got interesting, I was hooked. I can't wait to see the movie now!

I really enjoyed this book! I found Larsson's writing to be engaging and interesting despite the length of this book, and the complexity of family saga intertwined with white collar crime. I had incredibly low expectations of this book since I hated the title and I hated the cover, but thought I would give it a chance. I'm so glad I did, and will definitely be looking for the rest of the trilogy now.

3.75. :) I haven't read many mysteries since my middle-school Mary Higgins Clark phase, and the ones I've read have mostly annoyed me--they tended to be formulaic and plot- rather than character-driven. I think that was why this was such a pleasant surprise. While the plot was complex and satisfying I found both of the main characters very compelling, especially the amoral Lisbeth. The only thing I like less than genre fiction is series, but I've already got a copy of the next book in the trilog

What I've learned so far:
1. Every Swedish conversation includes at least one person stating the obvious.
2. Bachelors eat a lot of sandwiches.
3. Leviticus is creepy.
LATER...
Finished this today. Not my favorite mystery. Has a bit of Dan Brown Syndrome... symptoms include an enlarged plot and atrophied characters.

I absolutely loved this. So much that I bought The Girl Who Played With Fire in the airport for the ride home. I thought it was well-written & suspenseful up until the very end, with well-intertwined plot lines. Can't wait for the third!
