Emma is one of those books that many people assume I've already read. I was an English Literature major, after all, and for many people that means a large knowledge of all the works in the past 200 years. Truth is, I hadn't read it at all -- my direct experience of Jane Austen was limited to Pride and Prejudice and . I'm happy I got to Emma at last.

I know this is supposedly one of Austen's better works, and it was amusing, but I really didn't like Emma at all. I thought her only admirable quality was the fact that she wasn't willing to desert her father. Otherwise, I thought she was pretty much as obnoxious as Mrs. Elton. Also, it could be because I've been kind of mainlining Jane Austen's novels, but I saw all the twists coming, which may have made this one less enjoyable.
