Awful. Sexist, victim-blaming bullshit marketed as science-based manners / politeness training. Treating people well is a two way street; NO it is not a female train passenger’s fault that some entitled prick of a man-child screamed “suck my dick” and “if I had a gun, I’d shoot you” at her because she declined to talk to him in a bitchy way. If she had been more polite, he would have A. Done the same thing or B. Forced and cajoled her into a conversation she did not want to have. Why? TERRIBLE M

I gave up after three hours or so. A lot of her suggested responses to other people acting badly involve public shaming -- for example taking pictures of people and posting them on telephone poles, or on Facebook. She went through trash that was dumped on her street to find out contact information of the dumpers, and then harassed them mercilessly (although it didn't work, they never came and got their trash).

I was definitely disappointed in this book. It gets two stars solely for some of the interesting research she discussed in the beginning of the book about how we really are designed and function best with a circle of friends of about 150 people. However, once she launched into the chapters focused on good manners "advice," I began to get uncomfortable because most of her suggestions about how to deal with rude people seemed lacking in compassion and bordering on shaming.
