Wow. I loved this book. It makes me feel like I'm reading a soap opera-especially how the POV switches from chapter to chapter. I didn't like the turn that Jon's story took in the end, but I'm hoping not to be let down by it as the series continues. Arya and Tyrion are probably my favorite storylines right now, although I'm sure that will change soon. The Hound was also a character that I was silently championing, I hope he actually isn't gone for good.

The saga continues and gets even darker and more complex. Martin's second novel in the series picks up right where the last one left off and doesn't do too much backstory-ing for anyone foolish enough to read these out of order. More and more families are vying for power and potential kings are springing up like mushrooms and, as the title suggests, clashing. But it's not just potential rulers in conflict--new religions are attempting to unseat old ones, brothers and sisters scheme against each

Life goes from bad to worse for most of characters in the second volume in the series. It ends with several of the main characters (Jon Snow, pretty much every single living Stark and Tyrion - the only Lannister I wouldn't kill if given the opportunity) in mortal peril.
I like the introduction of a few more solid female characters - including a couple who aren't whores!
I would consider constructing an Asha Greyjoy costume, partially because the Kraken is the coolest of all the house sigils. ...more

Still action packed, fast paced and unputdownable. This thick book doesn't feel thick at all. The ingenious way of George RR Martin that hooks up his readers is to make all characters special, far from boring, and not one dimensional at all. You can empathize easily with them, even the evil ones. And he's cleverly put some side characters as our main eyes in some chapters, so we could see the story from different point of views.

This series just gets better each time I read it. This is actually the 3rd read for me on this one, but I almost don't count the 1st time since it was so long ago. I read the first two right after this one was published, and then found out more were coming. I decided not to continue on until more were available. This is not truly a stand alone book, but so much good stuff happens in this part of the story. Sansa and Arya start to come into their own, we go through the Battle of the Blackwater an

Coming from a person who started off with the TV series, following it up with the books was amazing. One of the qualities I appreciate most about these books is GRRM ability to bounce between dark adult themes to the representing the perspectives of a child. The Bran and Arya story lines are my favorite, but I will add that fans of the TV version of Jon Snow really need to read this book. Major important details for his story that aren't included in the show.

Listing this as abandoned cause I was reading it on my Kindle and my Kindle decided to have a FIT. Haven't fixed it yet and haven't read more on this book in a couple months. I'll get back to it eventually.
