One of the most depressing books that I've ever read so far. The fact that Orwell wrote this in early 50s and could quite predict the future made this book even more chilling. Surveillance, doctrines, propaganda, totalitarian, are some of the issues that Orwell wrote in 1984 and felt very familiar with our current world. The ending of this book is also so bleak, so it's not recommended for people who live in utopia :p ...more

I listened to this on audiobook, which was awesome because the narrator was fantastic. I know this is a classic, but I felt like the plot just ENDED halfway through and the rest was just an explanation of the Orwelian future. So, I guess I'm glad I read it (finally) but did not enjoy the second half of the book. ...more

Do read this book. It's an important satire that raises many issues that are all too real in our society. There's a reason it's required reading in schools.

But don't read it alone. It will leave you feeling hopeless, destitute, and asking the question "What's the point of caring?"
