What Members Thought

Best to trust no one, even if they seem friendly. A smiling girl one day is a girl with a stone bashing in the brains of a baby the next. This is the only truth. One can think there are such things as loyalty and trust and kindness but they are devil cats. In the end they are only smoke and cannot be grasped.

For some reason this book was showing up in all my "you would like this" recommendation type algorithms, so I finally gave in and used an audible credit on it. It won a bunch of awards in 2009 when it was released and lots of other sci-fi type writers gave it some high praise.
I....sort of get the praise, I guess. People like an elaborate dystopia that extends certain yucky trends in today's world and takes it to the most awful extreme, and this book does that. ...more

I read this book for a meetup book group but didn't finish it in time. Still, it was compelling enough to finish even after the meetup. It's also nice to read a physical book--I've been spending too much time on the computer or with my Kindle.
