I’ve read Kafka on the Shore and The Elephant Vanishes from Murakami, and the Wind-up Bird Chronicle is the first story in The Elephant Vanishes that led me to this book.
I love the underlying message and intent of the book. How well do we really know someone? Who are we really? If we lose our physicality, who are we, are we simply lost in the ether?

Wow. I very much enjoyed the writing - vivid, immersive, compelling. But, this could be read as a science fiction work. The reader needs to suspend themselves into Murakami's world. I also appreciated how many western musical references were included. . . although, I wonder why he chose so many western classical composers? Rossini, Haydn, Mozart? What does their music connote in Japanese culture?
