I am conflicted here. I enjoyed the first half quite a bit but then the "video scenarios" left me cold and unispired and I didnt get through them, i abandoned the book entirely... I want to give the first half 5 stars but the fact that then i couldn't even finish the book I can only give 3 stars. This easily felt like three different projects (only the parts i read, maybe there was like a nice summation/synthesis that made it feel like one?) and very uneven projects at that. ...more

This is Los Angeles’s book recommendation for everyone to read this year. Full of short vignettes of about the racism and microagressions Rankine and other black women experience in daily life. A really hard, uncomfortable but powerful read.
