The more I read, the more I realize my formal education did a pathetic job of teaching me world history. This was not an easy read. After all, it is about war. The viewpoints go back and forth among several people. Ugwu, the young man we meet early in the book who is starting a new job as a house boy for a well-respected professor. Really enjoyed the book. Well written. I really like how the book is readable despite its length. Recommended.

more like 3.5? i love adichie's writing, and i learned a lot about a part of african/nigerian history that i think most americans (especially those my age and younger) are totally ignorant of. but the structure didn't work terribly well for me (certain things that felt like they were supposed to be suspenseful were easily figured out with large clues), and i kept wanting an olanna/kainene viewpoint structure. i loved kainene, and wish she wasn't such a cypher, seen primarily through richard's ey
