re-read (for the second time) so that i can finally read maddaddam and actually know what's going on. there's a lot i like here, but the character of oryx is so problematic, basically not even a character at all, just a cipher/tool for the men to project their desires. i get that that's somewhat the point, but she seems to have basically zero inner life, and it's impossible to relate to her or to jimmy's obsession (not love) with her.

I felt at times like I really enjoyed it but at other times I really felt it to be a slog.
3.5 stars. The end was a bit too wordy for me, though.
