re-read (for the second time) so that i can finally read maddaddam and actually know what's going on. there's a lot i like here, but the character of oryx is so problematic, basically not even a character at all, just a cipher/tool for the men to project their desires. i get that that's somewhat the point, but she seems to have basically zero inner life, and it's impossible to relate to her or to jimmy's obsession (not love) with her. ...more
