What Members Thought

With this book I finished 2017 Read Harder Challenge, but what I think of this book? Honestly something between 2.5 to 3.5.
First few chapters of book didn't interest me at all and more than one time I thought of dropping it but eventually it got better.
Elizabeth Gilberts writes her spiritual journey to happiness and self confidence. This journey happens in three country : Italy,India and Indonesia. What I liked about her was the honesty of the narrative and at the same time I didn't like the dep ...more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! I love this book so much I could eat it! I love this book so much I want it to seep into my pores while I meditate. I love this book that I want to marry it!
Seriously - I really loved this book. And to think that after checking it out of the library I almost did not read it. But one peek at the Introduction and I was sucked in...perhaps because she structured it like a japa mala with 108 sections. That structure/idea appealed to the yogi in me.

I stopped at page 73 and put this book down. It certainly had some merit within those 73 pages but it just wasn't engaging me. I found the book felt somewhat artificial; the authors' travels of which she writes were funded by an advance from the publishers for her to write this very book!!
So, after some internal debate and reading several reviews on here, I decided it wasn't worth my time to push on. I would give what I did read 1.5 stars.

Almost gave this a five-star rating, definitely a 4.5.
I love the witty, conversational tone in which it is written, and I definitely identified with the subject matter.
A great book to read while you are travelling.
The "eat" and "pray" sections are without doubt the strongest parts of the book, the "love" section is below par in comparison.
Still highly recommended though. ...more

I picked this book up because EVERYONE was talking about it. I borrowed a copy from someone else who said she hadn't particularly cared for it, but that I might have a different opinion. I can't say for sure what my opinion would have been had I finished the book, because I only made it through the first few pages.
